Title: About Playing Cards
Description: Malaysian or US Playing Cards
Andrew Loh - February 25, 2005 02:32 PM (GMT)
Hi guys,
Just curious to know, how many you guys here use Malaysia or local made cards to perform card magic which the playing cards cost RM2 - RM5????
I think it's difficult to perform card magic unless you perform self-working card magic. :( - If knuckle-busting card effects, I think it's REALLY DIFFICULT to handle the Local made cards.
Example, you try to execute faro shuffle by using local made cards and US playing cards, which one you think it's easier???? US playing cards, right????
If now you use local made cards to perform magic and 2 months time you use US Playing cards, you will feel your hands like ackward and difficult to handle the cards, am I right?
I would love to hear you guys of your valuable opinions, thanks!
Best Wishes,
Andrew Loh

ALoha ANdrew,
YEah MSian made card sux. The other day i was out with frens from kl and one of them knew i could do magic, but unfortunately i left my cards at home. We were at A FAMOSA the ford there.... then i was like let go buy some msian cards la. so we drove to 7-11 and asked wat cards they have there. there were a couple one normal one er... about RM4 and the other (which i got) brand is LION 1881 and it has EXTRA SMOOTH on the box. It was sumthing like RM6-7 so i tot ah.. since im gonna do magic, i wanna get a good deck so i got the latter one (LION). WHen i first opened it, the cards were super dupa smooth.... even smoother than bikes but when fan it was kinda not nice.. and the handling also sux to the max, did a faro and the card cant bend nicely. anyway i procced to showing them some magic. it wass hard executing some sleights, in the end i just performed some self working trick and eaiser trick and some simple flourishes hehe... lol
Yeah so dont get Msian made cards coz they realy are bad even if they claim like they are good quality on the box. Oh... ROYAL 828 club special aint that bad. i use them for a bit of flourish at times... they can fan nicely but easy to spoil and damage.
Ill just stick to bikes and tallys man.they are the best!
Cheers!

Hi MagicB,
Yeah! Can't use local made cards in performance. Very difficult to handle the cards.
By the way, how many guys here do you use 'plastic playing cards' to perform magic???
Frankly, it's not easy to handle plastic cards, man??!!!!!
The cards edges are not smooth, there's again some drawback in plastic decks.
Have you guys purchase 'Tiger decks'? ow the apperance of the deck is really eye-pleasing and sooner or later have to get the deck.
There's a 'green colour deck' which sold at the magicbox.uk , has anyone here got the deck????
Would love to hear you comments of the above decks guys, thanks!
Best,
Andrew Loh

For Malaysian made cards, I stick to Rummy King 101. I dunno why hahahah but at times, it just worked.

Hi foks,
Yes, the other day I bought 2 Malaysian made cards, the brand name if "Apple", the cards have glossy or transparent kind of laminating cards, the cards are very durable. Just RM 1.80 per deck.
But fanning is not good, but well suitable in performing card magic.

went malacca weeks ago, ther's this shop right beside Orchid Hotel.. 24 hours shop.. selling some plastic card.. at 7.50 a deck.. bridge size... 2/3 thick of normal bike deck.. 1st time using 100% plastic card.. so i dunno if all plastic card are that thin or this is different.. andrew,magicB.. check it out...
Brendan Low - May 11, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
i know i have Royal 100% plastic cards, really thin and when u spring... wow.. nice sound. but it sucks as its too soft and cant fan and too soft for some cuts..
i prefer those USPC ones..

anyone ever seen 100% thin plastic cards but poker sized? please lemme know if u do.
normally the royal ones are smaller (bridge?)
Kam - May 12, 2005 02:41 PM (GMT)
Royal 100% plastic card was the first deck I bought with magic in mind back then. Though now I see the problem and all, it felt nice when the cards stick together for easier DL, smaller size (yes Rainking, it's bridge) for easy concealment.
But when I found THE playing cards... the Royals are now sitting firmly and nicely in their case inside my magic box stuff. The new kings are out, and they ride Bicycles.

hmm.. interesting.. IMHO, what deck of card you using doesn't show the so called "professionalism" at all. its the skill that matter.. if one can fan nice and firm using those 1.5bucks jaws deck.. then i think he IS good..

u r rite afoi. cards does not matter. its more of skills than the cards but i must say good quality cards does help :P
and abt using jaws, yeah sure... can fan well... especially if u got some powderful fanning powder.... :)

that's a card also quite similar to the jaws card. which i bought them earlier, is call the shark. Those card are totally different from jaws. but the box is quite same as the Jaws card. i didn't notice it at first, only until i open it, it is bigger, harder, and is not even smooth. just have to watch out for the same same but different card out there.
