u may chck thru the E site. They start to sell it days ago. Mondo show that effect as well.. very visual and good..

hmmphh.. looks like nobody here interest about it..

Peter - June 18, 2005 05:00 AM (GMT)
i don't even know what wiregrams are and the effects they do...

ChongWei - June 18, 2005 07:04 AM (GMT)
Effect : Spectator freely select a card... magician take out some kinda wire, magician apply some heat/burn the wire, the wire changed shape to the one match with selected card.

I've come across some site selling the "raw material", which mean, u can kinda "custom made" the post-burning shape.. but i just dont know how can we d.i.y the shaping at home... and were hoping someone from here to give some idea..

Kam - June 18, 2005 09:23 AM (GMT)
AH!

I've heard of that one before, never seen it tho. Afoi, be the first to do this trick man (to me at least mwahahahah!), I'm sure it's gonna be good.

Peter - June 18, 2005 10:12 AM (GMT)
can i sign up to be the next to see it after dok?? sounds really cool...

ChongWei - June 18, 2005 05:58 PM (GMT)
well, i would interested in getting it.. but first i have to know if i can d.i.y the shape by myself AT HOME ? else, i need to get those ready made firegrams...

will keep u guys update once i have it.. but not at this moment.. seriously out of cash lately..

Jeff Gan - June 20, 2005 03:50 AM (GMT)
i saw the preview at ellusioninst.

looks cool, but i'm not really sure what he did.
did he burn the f***h paper, and the wire dropped out?
but i dont think its so simple.

ChongWei - June 20, 2005 03:56 AM (GMT)
no trick at all on the wiregrams, that's as simple as it shown.. as long as u apply heat/burn that wiregram, it will turn to the "preset" shape..

[Updates]

guys, I've found a .pdf which explain "how it works" for the "material" for wiregrams.. if any of you wonder how it works, PM me for the .pdf it's interesting to try, and I guess we no need up to HUNDREDS of degree C to do the shaping..

anyone want to try on this ? Think about it, it looks cool to have one of your custom made "prediction" ..

ChongWei - June 20, 2005 07:08 AM (GMT)
Rainking, sent to u... enjoy the reading.. its interesting.. maybe if u have kids, u can have a "today in sciene lab" session with them while demo it..

then u can ask them to do alot.. and sell it.. LOL

Jeff Gan - June 20, 2005 07:21 AM (GMT)
dude,

it looks expensive. Like the stuff Batman uses for his cape. I dont have bruce wayne's money.

somemore, u need to heat the thing up to 500 deg celcius to give it its memory. unless u got a bloworch, i dunno how.

ChongWei - June 20, 2005 07:25 AM (GMT)
Quantity Discount
per foot (~.3 meters) Cost
1-5 $5.00
6 & up $4.50

hows that ?

the thing is, under the "activity" , it say use CANDLE~.. hmmphh..

Jeff Gan - June 20, 2005 07:26 AM (GMT)
price not too expensive.

how about the 500 deg bit?

ChongWei - June 20, 2005 07:29 AM (GMT)
ok.. np.. i'll tell u if candle works.. hehe.. most probably will place order next month.. just not this month.. unless any of you would donate for the R&D .. PM me for my paypal acct.. B)

In a candle flame a quarter of the energy created, is released as heat, which radiates in many directions. Only the 4% of the candle's heat goes into melting wax. There are three main reaction zones in a candle. The part where combustion starts is called the primary reaction zone. In the main reaction zone, the process of burning ends. The luminous zone is where the free carbon burns and releases light. The burning of a candle flame is a very complicated process. Liquid wax is drawn up the wick by capillary motion and vaporized with oxygen. The remaining carbon dioxide and water form many kinds of complex carbon-rich particles called soot. Soot is raised up to the top of the flame where the very strong temperature burns it.

Color tells us about the temperature of a candle flame. The outer core of the candle flame is light blue -- 1670 K (1400 °C). That is the hottest part of the flame. The color inside the flame becomes yellow, orange and finally red. The further you reach to the center of the flame, the lower the temperature will be. The red portion is around 1070 K (800 °C).

It is not possible to make this at home yourself i think.

I don't think using candle flame will be workable. You will need an even distribution of heat on it. And you will have to hold the wire in shape while you heat it to 500 degrees or it will just "remember" it's previous shape. I hope you are not planning on holding it with your fingers. :!!:

It's not just about making a fire but having disposable and controllable heat. Even industrial resturant ovens can only reach 300 - 400 degrees me think. So you probably need a small furnace for this to work. Just think about the fuel and eletricity you need. On top of that, you will need special clamps to hold the wire in shape while you heat it up. And if you are using a 500 degrees furnace, i hope you have some protective gears too. And house the furnace in an airy room so that the heat don't set your curtains on fire. And before you do all that, if you are living with your parents, you had BETTER ask them 1st :P

But it's interesting that you are trying this afoi. Let us know if you manage to get it to work. B)

Alternatively, you can buy them. Wiregrams are available from Ning's The Little Magic Shop for SGD$27 plus shipping from SG, which for something so light is probably less than $1. It's reusable so one is all you need. There are 7 "designs" you can choose from for 7 different cards.

It's like trying to make your own flash paper. It's just not worth the effort. B)

haha thanks Aloy for the advice. :!!: :!!: :!!:
i'm glad i didn't burn my house down... i owe you this...

Kam - June 20, 2005 11:51 AM (GMT)
Burned down house + your stuff + magic stuff + people's stuff in the house + cars caused by experimenting with 800 degree Celcius fire = pfrhtyllion.

S$27 Wiregram from Ning with probably a dollar worth of S+H = well... TWENTY SEVEN.

Just a little math that your friend here would do for you afoi ;)

ChongWei - June 20, 2005 12:36 PM (GMT)
hahah yea dok, but we'll see :P afterall, been playing with fire since i was 6 ... still, am not an arsonist.. anyone of you can rent me a room if i burn the FIRST house ?

Jeff Gan - August 12, 2005 06:42 AM (GMT)
