Title: Sponge Balls

Ben - July 15, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
Anybody do sponge ball magic here? If yes, what kind of effect do you do? Anything that requires gimmicked sponge?

Lastly, what good sources are there to learn sponge ball magic from? Thanks :D

>> what kind of effect do you do?
What do you mean "what kind of effect"?? I normally use different 2 routines. 1 is for kid's party (parlour form performance) and the other 1 is close-up.

>> Anything that requires gimmicked sponge?
For my kid's pary performance I use a gimmick sponge . For the close-up 1, sometime I use a extra sponge but most of the time I don't.

>> What good sources are there to learn sponge ball magic from?
There is endless but these are some that I paricularly like:
D.Harlan's Pack Small Play Big Kid's Birthday Party
Daryl's Fooler Doolers Vol 1
G.Wilson's On The Spot (uses napkin instead sponge)
R.Giobbi's 7th British Close-Up Magic Symposium
T.Ogden's routine in The Great Magic of Las Vegas 1 Vol 4

My friend who did parlour magic took 2 sponge balls and said
"...these are men's friends. one from the left, one from the right."

The whole room was laughing...
So yeah, if u're doing for adults...

Yeah, it seems ladies feel embarass if performing sponge ball where you use your finger to cut the balls into 2 or with some strange and funny patters.

By the way guys, what brands of sponge balls you used?? Is it GOSH???

I love sponge balls.... easy to carry around, easy to casually set up and perform, even for many adults ...

Think its kinda odd to say it out in public but I have friends that act like gays so I when I do it for them they would think well...you know....balls....if you get what balls I'm talking about....lol....and always gets the laugh out of them....very hilarious when the balls duplicate visually....they wont stop laughing till night lol :P

@Jarret

If you perform sponge balls to adults, try opening it with "I have two red balls..." ;)

I learned sponge ball magic form Frank Garcia who wrote the book on it. It's wonderful for strolling magic. I so a quick set: Show a sponge, separate it into two sponges. Do a transposition using Garcia's Magic 10 Count. Then I do a quick series where the ball jump back and forth in the hands. Then a third ball appears. Then one is vanished and appears in the spectator's hand with the one they were holding. Finally two balls are squeezed together and change into a square.

I lost that ball into square gimmick.sobs.It looks incredible.but I dont know where it went.sobs.haha

L & L Publishing just came up with an interesting Sponge Balls (World's Greatest Magic) DVD, you can check it out here.

It looks really good, with teachings by Frank Garcia, Eugene Burger, Daryl, Aldo Colombini, Johnny Thompson and even a funky Sponge Ball Routine with Watch Steal by Michael Finney

It's almost 3 hours long... anyone have this? ;)

I'm wondering if I should get some spongeballs in for the June convention... does anyone require any? Or Michael Ammar's cute 3D Bunny Rabbits trick? Or do soley children entertainers use these for their routines only?

Pls enlighten me... Thanks :)

Personally, David stone's sponge balls routine works best for me. I added a personal touch for it which end up 2 sponge balls to a Ding Dong in the spectator's hand. haha only good for adult. I don't think so kids would really appreaciate that. (just kidding)

For now I use the sponge ball routine from "Mark Wilson Complete Course in Magic"book.I think it is a great routine but you need to perform on a table. Now I'm still learning David Stone sponge ball routine from my IMS DVD.The sponge ball routine from David Stone that I learn can be done without table.I just need to use my hand and a pocket.

andrew chin - January 17, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
guys, ususally i use sponge magic to do comedy magic--..try this!~

Paul Long - March 9, 2007 10:47 PM (GMT)
Sponge balls to me are great. Relatively easy to learn a simple routine, versatile, visual, easy to carry around, easy to reset, allows for personal interaction and has never failed to get a big reaction.
