Description: Who's thinking of getting it?

Brendan Low - July 29, 2005 10:58 AM (GMT)

Ignatius - July 30, 2005 07:54 AM (GMT)
I don't know. Maybe. Already know quite a number of stuffs in there. Maybe for strengthening basics?

Jeff - August 1, 2005 07:32 AM (GMT)
yeah.. it looks really great. but i dont really like the title 'Beginnerz'. sounds funny to me. just my opinion..

Kam - August 1, 2005 01:49 PM (GMT)
I tend not to buy thingz. I buy things.

Seriously speaking tho, I read somewhere that this DVD is good to strengthen the foundation, and it also said that "some of us have done the moves wrong all this time". I forgot where I got them from, so I dunno... What you guys think. I mean, they ARE basic flourishes, yet the ones who teach them are the ones who created them. So yeah.

Brendan Low - August 2, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
Yeahm that's is what i thought as well. The flourishes taught it them are for beginner-intermediate. Most i would say i can do but to do them as perfectly as them NO WAY! hehe.... i mean these guys are professionals and thus technique taught will be great. It will surely be a great DVD for those starting coz having the rite foundations is essential to be great XCMers.

Its a collectors item though. Devo and Jerry... the creators of XCM.... man.. :P

Im in no hurry to get flourish DVDs yet as i still have lots of moves to work on from the SYSTEM. By the time i get the moves, another flourish DVD may come out and may be more suitable for me.... (looks at the virts.. hehe)

Alrighty.. gotta go..
Brendan

Jeff - August 2, 2005 03:25 AM (GMT)
altho itz for beginnerz-intermediatez but from the content listz we can see a lotz of interesting stuffz.. yeahz. too much movez to practisez for nowz.. will considerz bout it maybe after few monthz.. ciaoz.. ;)

shouldn't it be "caze"?

:P

Ignatius - August 18, 2005 02:09 PM (GMT)
Nope, they sound a risky purchase for me coz I heard many still favour Black Tigers over Vipers. Did you guys buy them?

BTW, my "package" arrived. :P Actually, arrived on 17th Aug. Got the leaflet today.... Tomorrow then collect though. <_<

Jeff, want a preview?

Jeff - August 19, 2005 03:41 AM (GMT)
wow.. aerox. good on u. it arrived so fast eh? yeah.. preview is nice but how?? lol..
we bought 1 deck so get another 1 for free.. dont have that much money to buy a case. i dont think its risky eh as this is the 2nd edition n its in fan back. not the 1st circle back edition.. i hope it arrive soon. tel us more on the dvds wen u get it yeah :)

Ignatius - August 19, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
Got it. Not too bad nor too good. Definitely good for beginners I guess. I'm a little disappointed but I guess it's a good reference. Q section is nicest I think. Wish they put more visual happenings in the Q section. It's like MTV's The Crib or behind the scenes of movies but with lots of Q talking/inteview scenes and less scenes on the actions like practise sessions or performances. :(

I was expecting those unpublished stuffs to rock. The Salamander is just some single cards combos with both hands while holding the deck. And the rest is just variations spawn from there. Argh, Mcbride, my old idol, what is up with you? And I think Mcbride should collab for the fanning workshop. Coz Cestkowski missed some of Mcbride tips in the teaching.

Personally for me, it feels so much less material than the list shown in the ellusionist page. Oh well, it's not too great nor too bad. Overall, they're good for reference or strengthening the basics I guess and maybe fill some holes in your performance. Hence, "Extreme Beginners". I'll say that it takes you to intermediate or half-pro, not really reach pro like advertised.

Hmm.... I'm not saying this DVD is bad though. I guess it's just my expectations are a little higher. But oh well, the DVD is OK. For me. :)

Brendan Low - August 21, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
oh O....

no matter wat.. its will be a great collection. I know i woudnt really gain so much from it as i dont think im beginner anymore. but the reason i get it is coz its gonna be a collection for me. i love flourish a lot and i wanna learn from the pros.

whether i learn a lot or not.. as long as it is entertaining, i think its ok. Ill just have to wait and see...

Thanks for the comments Aerox...
Brendan

Jeff - August 22, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
sigh.. i hope i wont be disapointed..
but i buy that basicaly not to learn moves.. just to watch those ideas n things to know ;)
thanx for ur review.. i still think its well worth the money.
hey aerox.. how many days ur dvd took to arrive?? mine was shipped on the 18th aug..
for the mmf vid i think u can show something cool from xbz eh? as i think u r the 1st here have it..

Ignatius - August 26, 2005 09:29 AM (GMT)
From XBZ? Um........ I don't know. I don't like quite a bunch of the stuffs. And most of them makes me no mood like that. Especially when De'vo comes up with this similar looking sybil thingy called Impossible Stack Close. He even got a name for just the opening of it called Flash Drei. Not even as pretty as the Tudors one. Those who say they like it sure only because of the difficulty.

De'vo tried to hide a sybil move by naming it to something else. And I remember he had slammed other manipulation artists for coming up with sybil variations at the magic cafe forums.

Oh well, the only good part is the idea, maybe I can use it for something and come up something for myself. So, no XBZ stuff rite now. Maybe can develop something with it later. Then again, maybe not.

Jeff - August 27, 2005 07:17 AM (GMT)
sigh.. seems like its a really bad product for u.. hmm.. 50+ moves n u dont like anyone of them.. i wish i wont be so disapointed.. :( actually i expect it will be great..

Ignatius - August 27, 2005 08:29 AM (GMT)
Nah, it's not really bad. Just I expect more. Stuffs there are okay to fill holes in performances like armspreads and giant fans and um.... don't know. I only liked those two at the moment. I'll watch through the DVD again. I am very selective of things I want to learn so yeah, it shouldn't look so bad(maybe :P ). Depends on what you have on your repertoire and what you'd like to add or improve to your moves or routine I'd say.

Brendan Low - August 27, 2005 03:23 PM (GMT)
is there much to learn abt the spreads? lol... and giant fan? i can already do that...

but oh well.. i know that its got lots of materials 50 + moves... most are basics

but like jeff said... i just wanna see their ideas and opinion on the art and also see how Q progresses week after week..

i look at it more to entertain me than wanting to learn someting...

im sure i will learn new moves and gain more ideas! im not worried abt it...
Brendan

Ignatius - August 27, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)
Well, yeah, so you can see how beginner the DVD is. But spreads and giant fans are my favourites from the DVD at the moment. They're the only things on my To Master list from the DVD. No other choices lerr. Well, whatever.

Ignatius - August 28, 2005 03:23 AM (GMT)
Dammit, after watching a few more times, I am drifting farther and farther away from magic. Well, my stance on it is still the same. This DVD is OK. Not bad nor too good. I'll be creating XCM routines first. Later then I try mix with magic routines.

Jeff - August 28, 2005 05:10 AM (GMT)
xcm routines?? wow!! i dont think i cant do that now.. :(

Ignatius - August 28, 2005 04:30 PM (GMT)
Oh, another bad point to add is:

Got too many "wu liao" stuff. Could have put them in a leaflet and include in the DVD case thereby saving a lots of DVD footage time for other things like detailed explanations or more moves or more footage for Q sections.

Jeff - August 30, 2005 04:37 AM (GMT)
just got it.. skip n skip n find it pretty amazing..!! not sure yet. will write after sometime.. :)

Isn't Showoff with Cards enough?

Ignatius - September 4, 2005 05:24 AM (GMT)
Showoff with cards got quite a few moves wrong like the simple charlier. =) But it has its own Pros as well like IMO WTH Sybil is best explained there. XBZ has better teaching view angles and methods. With Show off, the views need to rewind, play, rewind, pause, play, rewind..... repeat etc,...... XBZ, no need to see so damn many times. ^_^

Jeff - September 5, 2005 02:28 AM (GMT)
to be honest.. showoff with cards is a piece of sh*t!! ;)

Brendan Low - September 5, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
haha.... lol...

yeah there's no need for that SHOWOFF with CARDS DVD once u have the real showoff and system.

Cant wait to touch and watch my XB and adore my Viper :!!: !!!!

Jeff - September 5, 2005 06:32 AM (GMT)
alright.. heres my review of xb.. im not sure i should post here or under another topic. well..

Chapter #1. Things to know
i think this part is vry interesting to watch.. really :) they teach u how to pick cards up in some fancy way instead of just using ur hands..

GREG IRWIN - Finger Fitness Expert teaches hand health and exercises for XCM
quite useless for me.. but women like it

Chapter #2. Basic Moves

CHARLIER SECTION
yeah.. basics.. n the special close isnt vry special. good for beginners.

CARD TABLE MOVES
again.. basics. but there r few moves to play with. good for beginners too (of course)

UTILITIES
i like this part.. :) many moves u can use to fill the gaps between ur routines.. however. g-force n rolling flipback look really stupid to me.. anyway, it depends..

PERCHING CONCEPTS - too many ideas and screen shots to list! ALL UNPUBLISHED!
ALL USELESS! my gosh..

BONUS The Coin Roll
nice to watch.. devo does it really fast with any type of coin. but i hate coin..

SPECIAL MOVES

Jeff McBride’s Salamander Combo - UNPUBLISHED!
i think this looks stpd too.. but might be nice if u move the 4 cards at once smoothly. again.. i dont know n will not practise it.

Daryl
learn to do it the right way.. i do many variations but i use this since long time ago as i think this looks the nicest.

De’vo
3 moves.. all r quite cool. but not sure if i will ever try the wind spin move.. the stack close is nice i think (but dont compare to tudor's as this one has no OHR which can make it even better)

2 IMPACT MOVES
i still prefer tudors way of springing the cards.. the armspreads n catch is nice.

CHAPTER # 3 - 1 HOUR Fanning Workshop

FANNING WORKSHOP
1 of my main reason to buy this dvd. u can fan like the flourishman too ;)
in the hands spread is good if u hate lepaul spread. i hate it vry much..

CHAPTER #4 - Performing XCM Pro Tips
i like this chapter as well but bored to c his hands all the time instead of his face.
they teach u how to dress up for performance but i think this is common sense? but still vry interesting to watch..

CHAPTER #5 - Q SECTION - Our Xtreme Beginner learns about XCM
vry fun to watch escpecially when he learn from jerry n devo, NOT when hes talking n in fact he talks too much!!

i think thats it. if anything else will edit again la..
all in all.. a vry entertainin dvds set to watch.

Jeremy Soon - September 5, 2005 08:29 AM (GMT)
yeah...espcially for beginners, it good to know all the basic knowledge like how to prepare, what to wear, what jewellery to use. But however I do feel that the guidelines is more to Devo's personality, as a magician, it's best to have your own image and personality,

it's not that great to hear ppl talking, 'the blaine the 2nd'....and hell they don't even know your name...

Jeremy Soon - September 5, 2005 08:33 AM (GMT)
The basic moves and fanning workshop are great though... Great for beginners in XCM.

Ignatius - September 5, 2005 09:08 AM (GMT)
This just in:

You may of noticed that there is a space for 3 Discs in your XB yet only 2 were there. Yes that means that a XB bonus disc was planned and is in the works. The projected price is $9.99. We expect about 20 minutes or so of extras. It may end up longer like usual, we'll have to see. How many people are interested in this?

We are still working the details for this bonus DVD. It will probably contain 1 or 2 super easy bonus moves along with some new content. It may contain preview clips for upcoming projects that didn't fit on the original DVDs, but everything is left to be seen. We will update this as we get new information.

QUOTE
The bonus disc will contain left over clips that didn't fit in the 2 DVD set. Just bonus scraps and clips. There are a couple of very simple easy moves that will be added just for fun for beginners. This isn't like a new DVD in itself. It will contain scraps from the cutting room floor along with 1 or 2 super easy bonus moves. It may contain preview clips for upcoming projects, but everything is left to be seen.

I think I'll be buying it and so I wait.... ^_^

Brendan Low - September 5, 2005 10:03 AM (GMT)
That's bad man. Why cant they just include the bonus cd in the package as well. Besides, they say its just some scraps and 2 very easy moves for beginnerz.. oh well... i dont think ill get it. I think they should have included in the bonus DVD is there was to be any in the first place. Its sure not good marketing strategy to do this to customers. ....

so oh well.. i dont tink ill get it. as they said it themselves... they are just bunch scraps.

Brendan

Ignatius - September 5, 2005 10:57 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I guess I'll have to see the moves list first. If there is nothing new then I'm with you. :D
