Title: Magic Ring - Xcm Dvds
Kennard - August 6, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know whether magic ring has XCM dvds ?
Jeff - August 7, 2005 03:47 AM (GMT)
They don’t have any De'vo’s materials, D&D System, only Generation X and Capaso Casino’s Back 2 Basics: Flourishing. If I’m not wrong.
Kennard - August 7, 2005 11:12 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, i hope they come out with the new generation Extreme soon. Do u think they will ?
Brendan Low - August 8, 2005 04:21 AM (GMT)
im not sure.... if they are bringing in the new gen Xtreme i dont think it will be very soon. im not sure.
same with the SYSTEM.... i dunno if they are going to have it or not.
The last time i was there, there's no flourish vids, only the old gen X.
Magic Rings has heaps of magic dvds though.
Brendan
Kennard - August 8, 2005 04:46 AM (GMT)
i figured. Maybe that's why they named their shop magic ring rather than flourish ring. :P
Joe Xavier - August 9, 2005 01:58 PM (GMT)
magic ring sells dvds??
not only pirated vcds?
Kennard - August 9, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
altec - August 10, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
I've never visit MagicRing b4 but i wanted to know are they selling bicycle deck if so,
how much for one deck?
Brendan Low - August 10, 2005 03:14 AM (GMT)
I dont think Magic Ring sells VCDs... they sell DVDs.... and yeah if they are pirated, they sure look darn original.
And yeah they sell bikes... i think for er... RM18 each? if member RM16? Tally Ho RM20.
Brendan
Jeff - August 10, 2005 07:30 AM (GMT)
I’m not sure they sell DVD or VCD, I didn’t ask but they really have lots of magic videos. The deck… 1 Tiger is RM50! I got them from PenguinMagic for only RM24 and there was once only RM17 but I missed it! I forgot about the rest but Tally Ho is RM20. I bought 1 for myself and 2 for mindfreak so it’s RM60 with NO DISCOUNT.
altec - August 11, 2005 12:31 AM (GMT)
how to join the member for MagicRing?

As the president of the Malaysian chapter of the IMS, I feel I must say that this is piracy, criminal and is against the law.
Let's call it what it is....
Basically some unscrupulous person(s) have stolen the property of another and is fencing the item for personal gain.
Now you can sit there and justify it in whatever way shape or form.....but you know that it is wrong! Morally and otherwise.
So be aware....that if you purchase any IMS product form anyone other than IMS or their official representatives, you will be breaking the law, and you are guilty of aiding and abetting with those involved.
How shameful that those who represent themselves as "leaders in Malaysian magic" will stoop to such low levels to make a quick buck!
No wonder that the magic dealers in the US are thinking of boycotting Malaysia when it come to VCD and DVD sales....then where will we be.
And for heaven's sakes, please do not take pride in this entire exercise by saying "Malaysia Boleh!". I seriously do not think that this is what we Malaysians want the world to think of us.
Ignatius - August 15, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
Not a bad deal. I'm mainly interested in Colombini and Gertner but the rest of the cast have their own good magic too. And yep, they're worth over U$1k for the originals. I'll have to see if I have the time. Damn, 10 DVDs.... 8 will go wasted.... hahaha.... it depends who the other 8 are and the time I have..... hahaha. Where is the shop again? I may head to KL again sometime later this year.
Ignatius - August 15, 2005 04:44 PM (GMT)
Whoa, the anselm's post above just appeared when I posted. Well, piracy not allowed, then I guess it's time to make our own magic DVD production line. Well, I guess if you decided to stop allowing piracy then I got no problem there.
LOL, the Malaysian Boleh quote sig was from an old discussion. I guess I should remove it.
It's not really about stooping to low levels, it's culturally business which has been here since long ago. So, if the big money guys says time to stop it. So, stop I shall.
Until Malaysia's overall economy is richer, there will be piracy. Would have been wiser to leave it till later a bit then more Malaysians can start affording those DVDs. B)
There's no shame. Only personal opinion from a major influence. Nevertheless, honor the rule by now, I shall, if you must.
Anslem Roy - August 16, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
In response to the line of the thinking of the last post here....
1) If it has been culturally done for ages (even though it is morally and legally against the law) then it should be ok to condone prostitution, murder and robbery.
Make no mistake, piracy is exactly the same. You rob people of their livelihood and violate their intellectual property ownership rights.
You will never appreciate this until you have had someone steal something you spent time, money and effort and created yourself.
There cannot be any justification or pride in doing this.
2) From an ecomnmic standpoint - Yes, murder, rape, piracy has been around for a long time and it will be around for a while yet...unfortunately. Doesn't make it right! Someone, somewhere, at sometime must stand up and say "NO!".
Eg. Your neighbour drives a BMW and you would like one. So what do you do? Go out and buy one from a syndicate that is selliing stolen BMWs??? I think not. Well, it is exactly the same.
If you are not in a position to afford it now, save up your money, work harder, do right by yourself and buy the original product. You will help the industry grow, encourage the others to share their skills and most importantly make magic respectable....something which is sorely needed right now in Malaysian magic.
3) You are being ripped off!
Do the math - cost of a DVD RM 0.40 x 10 DVDs = RM 4.00
Even if you gave an additional RM 10.00 for cost of duplicating
That's RM 14.00 ... so let's round it off to RM 20 per set.
This means that you are giving the DVD pirate RM 280 for a pirated set that is sold.
He does not share this with anyone. He pockets the whole lot.
Lembu punya susu, sapi punya nama!... replace sapi with untung.
YOU ARE BEING RIPPED OFF!!!!
And if all of that is not shameful....I do not know what is!
Come on guys....stand by our craft and make it respectable.
I am not advocating the sale of the original DVDs by rather, the blatant promotion of something that is legally wrong. Do you realise that while every other industry is fighting to stop piracy, we magicians on the other hand seem to be relishing in the pursuit of this. And we wonder why the public do not have a high opinion of magicians in this country.
Our morals and principles show through in our dealings with our audience. Ours is a close contact, intimate, form of artform. We have to clean up our image before expecting others to change their opinions of us.....this from a magic stand point, a personal stand point and a nationalistic standpoint....."Malaysia Boleh!"
Paul Long - August 16, 2005 02:29 AM (GMT)
Anselm
The piracy issue is quite clear cut. But what about the borrowing and lending? And making your own magical props for personal use?
Can you give us your thoughts and advise on the sharing of magic knowledge?
Thanks

There's nothing to explain, everything u said is already known about clearly before you were here.
You sound like as if I'm supporting piracy. Please re read again. You read until the last line but forgot the lines above.

You do not understand what business done culturally meant. Prostitution, murder and robbery are not cultural here in Malaysia. It is only when it is of your personal opinion but that is an unlikely possibility. Another possibility is that you do not know what business done culturally meant.
Anyway, all you wanted to do is tell us to stop piracy rite? Then, it is done.

Not true. There's not really a need for experience of it to know what's it like. You made a lot of baseless assumptions about us. You are a sad man. Please come back when you're sober.
Recap:
ANSELM: Piracy is wrong and shameful. Stop!
ME: OK, I Stop. It is not shameful though.
ANSELM: WTF, Listen to me! You didn't listen to me!
ME: WTF, u talking to yourself. U suk. Get away from me u crazy mofo!
Anslem Roy - August 16, 2005 04:34 PM (GMT)
Now there's a mature reply to this.
Looks like I have hit a major nerve with Aerox....calling me names and getting personal and all. I wonder why?!!
I have no interest in attacking the personage behind the actions, but primarily in building the credibility for the artform...which unfortunately has been misread here.
I do not make any money standing on this soapbox and decrying piracy...but someone has to. Status check...Look around you. Read this thread.
I think that is the least that I can do after spending 33 years of my life in magic.
And try I will, despite and in spite all.
Paulmagic - With regards to the the borrowing and lending and making your own magical props for personal use...I will be only too glad to share this at the next meeting at The Magic Annexe.
Till then, happy magic-ing!
Paul Long - August 17, 2005 12:54 AM (GMT)
Just my 2 cents.
My basic assumption when posting is that we can easily misread each other's posts. (no body language - gestures, stance, not voice tone, no voice pitch, facial expression etc. to read).
It might be helpful to realise that posts can be easily misunderstood. Just like this post might also be taken as being condescending / patronising etc or making veiled comments at any particular person etc <_<
Peace

whenever a topic touches piracy or pirated stuff, fireworks start.
this is not the first time this has happened & i doubt it'll be the last.
at least this time Mr. 302123456 guy sat it out :P (or didnt log in).
everytime, its been ugly, though rather entertaining (Its like stopping to watch a car wreck...)
I'm no saint when it comes to pirated stuff, but guys, lets not go "there" in a public forum anymore. membuka pekong di dada....
again, i suspect some people are gonna misinterpret this ... :(
Brendan Low - August 17, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
Guys, can we stop talking abt piracy please? We all know its a problem when it comes to piracy in msia.
its ok to highlight or its ok to tell people that piracy is bad for our ART. This forum or this fellowship is totally agaisnt piracy. We do NOT want people here to promote piracy! Those who are serious in the art knows how much it will hurt it.
i believe everyone is been guilty piracy in some way. I admit i have too. However guys, we NEED TO PUT THIS TO STOP!!!! Think hard abt it, wat can we do to stop piracy?
Arguments when it comes to piracy and all.. we all had this messy argument last time before and we dont need one more time! Aerox, seriously i dont like the way u use ya langguage. its foul and its useless calling people names, because that will only make u look bad. Anslem is a pro magician and has been in the ART for 30 over years! He should know more abt the problems abt piracy more, so rather than challenging him, why dont u just listen and let it sink to u. Remember, he did not call u names. U wanna state ya opinion can but please no calling people names!
PLEASE BE MATURE, LEAVE THIS TO REST!!!! PERIOD!
