Title: Four Of A Kind
Description: MMF Flourish Compilation

Brendan Low - September 9, 2005 05:55 AM (GMT)
Gday to all,

I know some of you've been waiting to see this compilation of flourishes and it is finished. Yes, its all done by MMF members.

I had a tough time trying to edit as this is my first time using Vegas editing software to edit the clips. It was a tiring task but it was surely exciting and interesting to play around with it. Slept late for the past few days and finally got it done last nite 2am. lol

So, here is the link dudes!

http://media.putfile.com/MMF---Four-Of-A-Kind

or download straight here:

http://uploadfile.putfile.com/videos/17621424372.wmv

Crank up ya speakers and enjoy! lol

We would surely appreciate some constructive comments/criticism after you've viewed it. Thanks.

Cheers!
Brendan

Maybe I should lose the specs and wear contacts instead. Or maybe change to sunglasses! B)

And I can't do the cobra cut. Well, at least not yet. :D

Anyway, good job everyone! ^_^

BTW, how do you guys like the song? Great job video edit by Brendan!

isaac - September 9, 2005 07:34 AM (GMT)

Kam, u've got some nice cuts going there bro. Keep it flowing dude... :P

Aerox, i have to say impress with ya cuts and skills. :P

Jeff, u're skillz dude... awesome :P

Great to have you guys in this vid... we're surely four of a kind (title suggested by Jeff) lol

yeah dudes, would love to have another compilation next time but not anytime soon... perhaps next year or something lol... or how abt end of this year where we gonna have a big gathering? we can record live footage of our flourish jammings. Someone else can edit next time lol.

Jeff - September 9, 2005 12:26 PM (GMT)
all the footages run quite smooth with the transitions.. thank u brendan. i understand that you have put in a lot of effort and time to edit this video and everything else.. well done :)

brendan.. i like all your fans. they look nice to me. i cant do the flipback fan arh  n ur ohr is nice too.. sybil n hot shot r smooth ;)

i met kam in person once wen i went to kl.. his cuts r fast. too bad he was vry busy when we met so i didnt get to talk to him much.. :D

aerox.. y did u choose that shirt with spore on it? lol.. :P
u r fast too.. the flash drei is done quite well n fast. but i have to say that i still prefer kev's way to do ds. but urs is ds too ;) wow.. i really cant do cuts outdoor like u.

jeff.. your 1 hand fan looks bad. too bad the frames are too slow for ur fav cut - very bad habit. it doesnt look smooth in the vid :(

all in all.. its entertaining to watch. good job every1 esp brendan..

Jeff Gan - September 9, 2005 01:12 PM (GMT)
just watched it again.

loved it. wish i could hear the music.... :(

I hate you Jeff, I had to pick up my jaws from the floor for watching your part!

Ignatius - September 9, 2005 02:14 PM (GMT)
Don't worry about your fan Jeff. They should still be thinking about the Cobra Cut when the video gets to that part. Big flourish covers the small flourish. lol.

And I would like to join you in complaining about the camera capture rate for my own section.

I don't hate kev's opening but I modified to allow me to open it up faster. The speed still can be improved ( I guess I should have done a faster retake for the video). For kev's opening, I felt kind of limited in speed. And I think kev's opening is not the style for a faster speed but more on smoothness.

And there wasn't really a Flash Drei display. I just went straight to the Impossible Stack Close with a Sybil thrown into the middle. Have fun trying to do it. It is called Impossible Stack Close for a reason. :P

The capture rate on my cam makes many of my stuffs look slow unless I do it infinitely fast. Hmm....

Oh, btw, the cut flourish is called Aerox Cut. :D I created it while playing around with OHR3.

Oh, and the excluded clip and its blooper:

Overall, everything on the video looks well. Thanks to all especially Brendan for the collaboration vid. ^_^

Brendan Low - September 9, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
yeah Jeff... even though ya OHF didnt spread as well... the technique was right and its great for a non-powdered deck. if u put FP.. sure fan well with the right technique.

Aerox, yeah ya impossible stack close was v nice.. super speedz... i like it. I havent payed much attention on the XB dvd yet....

will do probably this weekend. :)

the Aerox cut... hehe... i seriously cant reach so far. perhaps illl use my middle finger instead of my index. :P lol

Guys, no probs on the editing man..it was my pleasure to work with u guys on this collaboration. Its our vid :)

isaac - September 9, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
to brendan,
ur cuts is clean n nice... improve a lot a lot.
i basically wacthed his very first few vids again n compare with 4of a kind
n i am amazed.
cuts is almost perfect, may b add a bit of colour changes, some "magic", or aces productions ? to make it look interesting ??
btw i love his hot shot ....

to kam
1st cuts still got room of improvements
2nd, capture ur vid in a better place. cos it kinda melt with the colour of ur shirt n make it blur + camera or web cam not good quality so make it reali blur in some part.
but overall, is very nice.
he did the ace production which i think add points to his part ...

to aerox
cool n wonderful cuts
crazy moves n nice closing
clean n nice ...
*i just stand amazed*

to jeff
if u didnt mention bout the OHF, probably no one will reali notice
suuuuupeeeeeeeeeeeeered cobra cut
is just wonderful
nice video
nice closing

to everybody
U all did a great job
n i am not some reali good expert or anything to coment
just my 2cents n humble opinion
lots to learn from u guys

isaac
-stand amaze-

Hello Brendan, Kamil, Jeff and Aerox,

An appreciated standing ovation from James Tong. Keep up the good work. You guys kept me glued onto your hands - replaying at least 10 times and really admire, respect and recognise all four of your work as high quality stuff. I'm really happy to see the quality of magic growing by leaps and bounds in Malaysia.

Yeah... probably will include some productions... next time... lol. Gotta practice first :)

Thanks for the comments dude!

James,
Thanks for the applause. Yeah i feel great too to see people here in msia having the interest and skills at not only magic but also in the art of XCM and flourishes. Im sure we will grow more and more mature in the ART.

Cheers!

Err, you don't really use the fingers except maybe to hold the deck or the lower packet. Start from a charlier then thumb clip the high packet near the end of the lower packet. Though I said I discovered this while playing with OHR3, the method is not like OHR3.

Jeff - September 10, 2005 08:01 AM (GMT)
i have a little to say about the music.. its nice but i think it makes me feel like watching power rangers.. dont know. just my feeling. lol.. still ok eh.. ;)

lol.. i dont think my cobra is that good. tons of others out there do the king cobra, im still not smooth with it so cant show it here.. hopefully can master it by nov..

aerox.. cant really c some of ur cuts clearly but can c u r fast. perhaps u dont need so much body movements so we can see what u r doing.. haha. capture rates wont make u look slow, only not smooth. the speed will remain the same.. n i like ur stack close with sybil :)

kam.. dont hate me pls. do u still remember my face? :D

yeah.. i agree brendan has improved a lot!!

yeah.. nothing much to add on beside the frames r too slow that makes my vry bad habit doesnt look smooth. sigh.. !! !! i spent the most time to practise it!!

Brendan Low - September 10, 2005 08:27 AM (GMT)
jeff... lol... ya bad habit looks fine man.. sorry if it really doesnt look smooth. i dunno i dont see anything wrong with it.

it looks smooth to me.... :)

ChongWei - September 10, 2005 03:51 PM (GMT)
keep up the good work~!! *salute*

Ignatius - September 11, 2005 05:15 AM (GMT)
Couple of issues I forgot to address:

Singapore shirt: It was accidental. And the most comfortable one that I can practise with at that time. The other good ones were in the wash.

Body movement: Most likely the reference to Sybil Rain. Yeah, I'll try to experiment with less body movement but overall the lay ppl like it but if I have to choose, I'll still practise for faster smooth speed on this one first. The less body movement will be trained later(if it looks better). See too detail is most likely for non-lay ppl view. If you guys want to learn it, wait for Rainman's DVD (if he comes out with it). :P So it's not much of a high priority (will train it when got extra time). And yes, I turned sideways on purpose. :P

Well, whatever the issues, please do enjoy the show! B)

Jeff - September 12, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
seems like only few of us keep posting?? lol..

Brendan Low - September 12, 2005 10:44 AM (GMT)
lol... yeah only 4 people (other than us) commented.... so far.... lol... <_<

CLJ - September 12, 2005 11:24 AM (GMT)
Okay you can add another guy to that number.

Brendan, the fans and hotshot were great and your OHR false looks awesome. You You've got your sybils down pretty well on smoothness and speed, so I'd say work a lil more on the style, not that yours is bad. The molecule 2 was nice and smooth, but you didn't do much else so I don't know what else to comment on =S

Kamil - some of the cuts in-between either looked really similar, or I had no idea what was going on... which is probably the camera's fault though. That last cut you did with the pseudo-one card production was great though.

Aerox - your sybil dribble is l33t and you definitely do Kev's Damn Str8t justice. But I didn't get the last cut, cause it seemed to me like a really minor variation of a 3-packet sybil, and nothing really seemed different. The other stuff was awesome though.

Jeff - honestly you've got one of the nicest cobras I've seen, and your VBH is kickass. Work on the fan during the flipback vanish though. And plus you did the first more-than-decent looking Mary Jane that I've seen from anyone other than from the Bucks themselves... you've got the skillz baby

Overall I thought the vid was great, especially for a first-time collaboration video. I don't know all of you (except for Brendan) but I thought that the whole thing was well put together and all of you have definitely got chops. The editing was okay too, and the only minor complaint I had was that there were too many sybils - brendan did a WTH, Kamil followed with several cuts that almost looked similar to a sybil, Aerox did Sybil Dribble followed by that 3 packet sybil thing and then Jeff did VBH. Honestly one person performing a sybil is way more than enough for a video. But this is an awesome first effort, and I'm impressed. Keep it up!

C.

Ignatius - September 12, 2005 12:16 PM (GMT)
CLJ: That was the impossible stack close by devo from Xtreme Beginnerzs(szsz?) with a sybil thrown in the middle. Yeah, I didn't change the simple closing coz I haven't had time to experiment. I guess it's sole purpose in there is to let ppl know that it isn't impossible (ref: Q bloopers section :P ). Thanks for the comments!

Brendan Low - September 12, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
CLJ, thanx for the comment dude.... yeah man.. i really didnt do much cuts in the vid. THe fans took most of the time... lol.

As for those that have commented or going to comment on my flipback, i know its not that nice... but the truth is i could never do flipback that nice b4 i tried to record and when i did i was like wow... quite nice (to me).. suprised... lol. after that i tried over and over again the flipback.. turn out to be even worse. so i tot ah why not just include la.. hehe.. beginners luck i would say

I will do more cuts the next time i do a solo flourish vid.

Cheers!
Brendan

Ignatius - September 15, 2005 12:09 PM (GMT)
Need more comments on my Impossible Stack Close. The one where my Singapore shirt is clearly seen. Does it look too plain?

BTW, it's false....

Nah, I'm just kidding. :P

Brendan Low - September 16, 2005 01:38 AM (GMT)
Aerox.... its so frustrating coz i cant do that cut. It involves that almost impossible grip between ya index and ring finger....

I cant do the impossible stack/close from CTG, and thus cant do this either. grr.....

anyway.... i dont think its that nice of a sybil anyway lol.... (but u do it very smooth... respect! :) )

The best looking sybil IMO is WTHHTS and also i like Remix by Keone... :). Madonnas are also my fav.

Cheers!
Brendan

Jeremy Soon - September 16, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
cool!!...really really nice...all four of you are really great....:D :D :D
Jeff your cobra cut was really nice.... :D :D :D

Yeah, I don't think it's that nice either. That's why I threw in a WTH sybil in the middle. I didn't plan on practising either. Since I'm like "WTF is up with this XBZ DVD? Oh well, might as well practise the hardest move on the DVD." And as I looked at the tutorial, I thought "Hmm.... is it really impossible?" Let's try...

Well, I can say that I think practising the DS helped with the grip but not for speed. Still the speed is slow. Coz when I tried to go fast some packets hit another and something like that. So I tried slowly while devising how and where to spin the wrist. It just takes some getting use to, as the sybil movements are different at quite a few places. Then I increase the speed as I diagnose every part on what is obstructing me from moving the packet into place. Then it's all practise ie went crazy doing it over and over and over and over...... This is what I meant when I don't use any finger strengthening things. The cards are the exercise tools themselves. ^_^

Yeap, Madonnas clearly look nice. I haven't seen Remix though. Can't really compare Bucks stuff to the Impos Stack Close as it's more like a basic move, like the WTH sybil. I like quite a number of cuts but at different speeds. I'll try to get the Impossible Stack Close faster to see if it's nice at fast speeds. I am currently at a faster speed than the one shown in the video and it kinda looked and felt good when the clipped packet switched in to the bottom deck. I try to get it as fast as the WTH sybil and we'll see how it turns out. Wish me luck.

And thanks djsky for the compliments. :)

Brendan Low - September 17, 2005 04:56 PM (GMT)
Remix is by Keone but it aint False.. but ive added a lil touch/adjustment to make it top packet false.. lol...

its got lots of the looks a like of bad habit/madonna looking moves... lol....

Will do it in my own vid soon... dunno when lol..

And yeah Djsky, thanks for ya compliments :)

Cheers!

Andrew Loh - September 22, 2005 04:18 PM (GMT)
Ok, let me review what I saw the flourish clip which compiled and edited by Brendan.

Brendan showed me the clip today of our meeting and I have just one word in my mind: "Awesome", I like the background music, very cool and saw some of our very own Malaysian xcm presented their flourish skills, really excellent, just top-notch! Of course, we also have our Indonesia magic friend, Kamil too. Just love it to watch again. (If Brendan, you don't mind)

Of course, if my memory serves me correctly, there are Brendan, Aerox, Jeff, Kamil were involved in this filming of their flourishes. This is our bright future for our very own Malaysian xcm, you guys rock man........ :P (Salute)

Alright, I will stop here of this review otherwise, haha it would become a long-winded reviews, I really looking forward to watch another flourish compilation of clips from you guys! ^_^

Andrew

Brendan Low - September 22, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
wow... thanks for the review Andrew.... hehe... glad u enjoyed it.

hey... if u want a copy, bring a thumbdrive the next time u come over yeah. I know its a pain when you dont have streamyx. i dont have too.... thus i use office super fast net to download haha....

yeah... will sure do another compilation next time... but not any time soon... lots more to practice on and if there's another compilation, some one else will do the editing... :) hehe...

again thanks for the compliments.

Great to see u keen in learning flourishes Andrew! B)

Cheers!
Brendan

Andrew Loh - September 23, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)
Thanks! Yeah, I will give more details of my reviews if I watch again like you, Kamil, Aerox, etc. I forgot and couldn't recall last night what I have watched in the clips, I meant the flourish's terms, you know, the 'kung fu' you guys use to blow me off that night! :P

Yeah, thanks again Brendan, you inspire me to learn flourish to be honest, the other time I was give up in xcm, but you keep on motivating me to learn flourish and show me a lot of xcm clips. That's why my motivation of learning xcm now revive. ;)

Happy Flourishes, :P
Andrew

I decided to learn WTHsybil2 and VBH today. Got them down in 2 hours. Damn easier than expected. I surprised myself.

I think I didn't want to learn them in the first place coz too much sybil feel in them, looked complicated and looks kinda boring. I was watching Hit the Road, and realized the Bucks were doing VBH and it looks nicer than Tudors. So I decided to give WTHsybil2 and VBH a re-look which today to which I found the time. And I can say that the showoff vid isn't bad as many make out to be when you can do WTH sybil in your sleep :P (I jsut meant the point that the basics firmly planted).

I think I'm going crazy here so I think I'll go for the Tudor challenge if it's still up (but it looks like it's not). I don't have the new GenX but I don't mind paying U$60 for the new GenX if I get back U$1000. $_$

Brendan Low - October 4, 2005 09:31 AM (GMT)
hehe aerox... u'd go for all the competitions wont u... lol... great!

i wonder if we can have an MMF flourish competition. hmm....

give away cool prizes and all.... but who's gonna be the judge etc?

as for prizes... participants just pay for the entry fees.

all the money collected will be used for buying the prizes. hehe...

i dunno.... wat u guys think? any ideas?

can we get any sponsors? hehe.... are there any magic/flourish competitions in msia?

hmm,
Brendan

Hello Brandan,

I can volunteer to be the judge, sponsor and also the organiser BUT ...

I need to know exactly how many people are seriously interested to participate in it.

Let us brainstorm here ...

Brendan Low - October 4, 2005 10:13 AM (GMT)
hehe... i was only suggesting, but yeah i dunno if it will work or not.

besides, its super hard to flourish live and under pressure.. hehe.... ;)

James, do u know of any recognised magic competitions in malaysia? be it close up or parlour or flourishes?

Im just curious....

Actually, curious to know if there are any associations for magicians in malaysia?

Historically, there have been 2 recognised magic competition in Malaysia ...

1960s - organised by the first recognised magic club in msia - it was very active and the competition was fierce - close-up, manipulation, stage/illusion, mentalism, comedy, etc.

1970s - Bintang RTM where the winner is Paul Seow from Ipoh. He won the award among other talents such as singing, dancing, magic (a few contestants), music, etc. He won it while he was just a kid - his father (Samuel Seow) helped him out.

As far as I know they are the only recognised competition.
