Title: Teacher
agusbudi - September 20, 2005 12:24 PM (GMT)
Who is the best card magic teacher?
Andrew Loh - September 20, 2005 12:57 PM (GMT)
I think would be Michael Ammar, he really teach vivid detail of the card effects. ^_^
Well, agusbudi, you maybe have to ask more from other members in this forum here as I know they watch more magic DVDs than me, I think so far the best it's still Michael Ammar in my point of view.
Andrew
Peter - September 20, 2005 01:50 PM (GMT)
Brad Christian also ok... but for me the best is Jacklw, Balaan and and Brendan... hahaha... :P
isaac - September 20, 2005 02:57 PM (GMT)
Personally,
Oz is just great ...
Jay sankey - one guy u will laugh through the whole teaching video
Michael Ammar is awesome - He really know what he is talking about, his handling of card is awesome.
brendan from mmf - superd nice guy, he basically show me n guide me through msn web cam, also my mentor in magic :)
Eric Liew - September 21, 2005 04:33 PM (GMT)
Michael Ammar is a good explainer...
He even appears in other magicians' explanations just in case the explainer forgets to explain something.
But sometimes Ammar is a bit too slow though..but too slow is better than too fast..:)
Brendan Low - September 22, 2005 12:18 AM (GMT)
Teacher in Magic...
Surely Michael Ammar is a Superb Teacher. Yeah Eric, i agree he is kinda slow in explanations... but that's a good thing coz we got more time to follow the routines..hehe
Brad Christian also i like a lot. I find his explanations v useful.
Other than that.... daryl is ok...
Oh.. Kenningst and Isaac, thanx for the compliments. All i do is help u spot and sharpen and utilise the things u already know :P. lol...
Andrew Loh - September 22, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)
Brendan, - Wow, you see, somebody see you as their idol or mentor already. Good on you man. :P
Yeah, true, what I know about Brendan so far he is a patience guy and each time he teaches me, I always drop my cards and he said 'try again' many times, he is willing to share his flourish whoever keen to learn. ;)
Andrew
Brendan Low - September 22, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
^_^ hehe... well it takes lots of patience and effort to master a flourish move. lol... im more than happy to help anyone who i see has potential and have the wat i call "passion" in the ART.
Andrew, u're a good magic teacher urself man. U've taught me a lot too and it was great to jam with u everytime coz u always got new things/effects to show me... awesome....

Brendan Low - September 22, 2005 04:37 AM (GMT)
haha.. lol... i dunno if many would agree with u on that jeff.
I always tot and brian tudor was really bad at teaching and he is really... lol... but all i can say is his teaching in the new generation extreme DVD is much much better than his earlier videos.
But i still wouldnt say he is the best in teaching... no where close... lol :D
Cheers,
Brendan
Jeff - September 22, 2005 05:23 AM (GMT)
i was just joking.. ;)
i think most of u have mentioned the great teacher..

Brendan Low - September 22, 2005 07:53 AM (GMT)

Andrew Loh - September 22, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
Haha.... At last, we have just met this lovely evening, happy to jam with Brendan as he showed me a number of his great flourishes and variations, very nice. ^_^
Yes, he also gave me some correction on the Sybil, I did it wrongly, no wonder, each time I try to do Sybil, I feel my hands are not comfortable at all.
Hey, once again, thanks a lot to my flourish sifu, Brendan for correcting me on this. ;)
Cheers,
Andrew
Brendan Low - September 22, 2005 03:50 PM (GMT)
YEah.. had a fruitful jam session with my magic sifu Andrew Loh... haha...
He showed me some of HIS effects from his upcoming book Pasteboard Galore. Very nice dudes... be sure to preorder his book from him.
Also guys... Andrew's got one super nice way to shoot a card out of a deck. It looks like top shot but its different and i beleive its original.... I guess Andrew will show u when we come to KL oneday lol..... end of year.
Overall, we had lots of fun jamming. SHowed him some preview of my XB and corrected his sybil.. haha... he had the habit of that index finger (magician's most common mistake when trying to learn flourish sybils) lol. i correct it already and Andrew hope u'll find time practicing it. Im sure u will..
Ill be practicing on ya very own "top shot revelation"
Haha... looking forward to meeting u more regularly.... :)
Cheers!
Brendan
Andrew Loh - September 22, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
Yeah, thanks for your compliments! I am appreciate it. ^_^ - It was a fruitful jamming with you.
Thanks a lot, I am so excited of coming up this Top Shot Revelation (Which Brendan gave this name), I think it's useful of displaying a card in a more visual way. ;) - I am glad that Brendan you really enjoy it and thanks for your honest comments. Truly appreciate it!
There's some stories behind of creating this TSR, I will share the funny stories when next meeting you guys!
Yeah, will brush up my flourish skills, I will master the Sybil first.
Looking forward to meet you again maybe this weekend, how about that??!?!??! :D
Cheers,
Andrew
Brendan Low - September 22, 2005 04:21 PM (GMT)

haha..... reminds me of andrew.. the book dude when comes to learning card magic... :)
so eric, does damon teach u flourishes?
damon, we normally jam for at least two hours when we do meet. normally it is 3-4 hours and that also coz we have other things to do... hehe...
i think jamming 2-3 hours is v good already.
but if we have a bigger group.. i can jam forever... look wat happen to me at Nouvo nite.. i didnt sleep the whole nite... jam magic from dusk to dawn. still not bored... but i was more jamming flourishes and that aint gonna be boring... haha
currently im brushing up some few sleights but i stil do flourishes most of the time haha.
:P

Oh, you guys discussing about each other and meetings, ya the last weekend had a great day jammed with Brendan, Jason, and Kenningst, we were at the Mahkota Parade food court and showing some magic stuffs to each other. It's a rewarding jamming with them.
Well, if I am not mistaken, we jammed about 6 ~ 7 hours, we were talking, sharing some top names magicians' stories, DVDs, books, etc. :P
Brendan, I call you the 'iron magician'. :P - Hahaha........... :D - I still remembered Kamil was the one slept very early. - Though I am too crazy of magic, but sometimes can't be helped my eyelids want to wind down, so can't force myself otherwise I look foolish or an idiot. Imagine, with such condition, a particular person talk magic with you at that kind of face. :D
Well, reading magic books also got problem, you know why, you see, ppl calling me bookworm I don't mind actually :P but also they forget another 'bookworm' in my bookshelf, they seem like to eat paper so I have no choice, once in a bluemoon, I have to remove the books from the shelf and cleaning them, also purchase some bookworm medicine to get rid the inserts, but not 100% helpful.
If you guys I mean those reading magic books like me and you are a book collector, if you don't do the necessary action, your books would be in 'holes'. This will hurt you a lot. - I wish how good it is there are no bookworm (malay also known as 'gegat') in the world. But, this is not such the case.
Andrew <_<
dam0n - October 7, 2005 08:15 AM (GMT)
brendan>wud sleights u brushing up on?
nah..eric ain't interested in flourishes.....he can't flourish for jack..not even 'spring set' by john cornellius (pop up move in bill malone dvd)..haha...no offense eric..lol~~
I find books more interesting nowadays..But still look out for particular dvds..
look out for paul cummin's new dvd on the side steal (fasdiu.com)...and any of dave williamson's dvds~
^^
Brendan Low - October 7, 2005 09:35 AM (GMT)
im just practicing on simple everyday sliehgts like DLs, counts such as Emsley and jordans, ATFUS moves, various steals (like i know so many), one hand palm, Hot shot cut, passes, betram change and other variations... basic stuff i guess...
Damon, yeah heard from BUCKs that Dave Williamson is a darn good magi.... would surely like to see his stuff as well... u have any of his dvds? Did u listen to the magic broadcast show? They mentioned it there. hehe

I love the teachings of Michael Ammar coz he gives credit to the creator, explains in extremely detailed instructions and also tells a lil bit about the history of that trick, etc.I love that guy but he's kinda boring when he teaches.
Jay Sankey is freaking funny.Love this guy too.Throws in tons of comedy in each DVDs haha.Love learning from him coz he adds comedy inside.
Andrew Loh - April 14, 2006 03:35 PM (GMT)
I think Michael Ammar is still the best, I see him perform magic and he really connect to the audience.
When comes to teaching magic, I think he is still the best. I like his style of teaching, very soft spoken person. :) - Hope to meet him one day!
He is now travel from town to town to give his lecture. ^_^
Andrew
Jarrett Goh - April 15, 2006 02:19 PM (GMT)
Michael ammar also call up the creator and ask if he's allowed to teach his effects which is awesome and respectful. He also knows how to do his research of the creator and give credits to the creator of that effect too.I respect him lots

Many American magicians don't like Michael Ammar of his series of DVDs. I think this happens probably they felt jealous what Micheal has achieved great things in his card magic DVDs.
I think what Ammar did was ethical which he had the permission from the originator and he taught in his series of DVDs. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Andrew B)
Paul Long - May 1, 2006 10:04 AM (GMT)
Michael Ammar has his own unique style. I don't do much card magic but I have 3 of his ETMCM DVDs. He is great!!!
JEUZE - May 1, 2006 04:09 PM (GMT)
For me I not really accept the way Michael Ammar teach [Card Magic Only]. But I like his Easy To Master Thread Miracles Series.
For Card Magic, I kinda like Sal Piacente, Lennert Green, Gerry Griffin, Gergory Wilson, Derren Brown, I think there is a lot more]
For Manipulation [Card] Jeff Mcbride, Jeff Sheridan.
For Rubber Band, I like Joe Rindfleisch, Dan Harlan.
For Impromptu, I like Tom Mullica.
For Rope, no idea yet not yet go through. [may be Jeff Sheridan]
For Mentalism, Banachek, Richard Osterlind [no comments on them maybe I seldom pay attention what they teach.
For Coin Magic I got only David Roth.
I think there are a lot more good magic lecturer..maybe after the MMF gathering James Tong will be on list. ;)
Eric James is one of the magic lecture I don't know how to describe.
