Joe Xavier - October 2, 2005 07:00 AM (GMT)

Brendan Low - October 3, 2005 12:30 AM (GMT)
i can only do a simple coin roll... that all... hehe...
i do it witn msian 20 cents. Those with thicker fingers prefer 50 cents.

muscle pass. I stopped doing it after finding out that it makes that part of ur palm have a hard skin like what is does to your fingers after playing guitar for quite a while. If you are okay with having that, go learn it. I'm not.
Brendan Low - October 3, 2005 10:16 AM (GMT)
i can only do a kinda weird muscle pass..
my coin flips the other way round...
and yeah u get a blister(or blue black) and then rough spot on ya palm after much practice...
i only practice is when im really bored and have no cards with me.
hehe...

Haha....... - The other day was very funny, when Brendan and I watched Jason performed his coin magic, suddenly I asked "Can you do Muscle Pass?", he just laughing all the way. As I know, this beautiful muscle pass is not easy to do at all.
I read a book and the effect known as "The Rosette" which is a coin flourish, wow, it's very nice but not easy to do.
Play too much card magic, when comes to coin, well, the hands can't take it anymore. :P

i practiced muscle pass till my hand had the outline of a 50sen coin on it! haha... apart from muscle pass, 5 coin spread and coin roll... what flourishes are there with coins? anyone know?
JamesTong - March 23, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
Signs of a person practising the muscle pass -
1) Their right palm is different in color
2) The skin texture of the right palm is thicker than that of an elephant
3) The size of the right palm is bigger and more swollen than the left
4) There is a hole the size of a coin in the right palm
5) Both eyes have blue-black marks - the coin keeps shooting your eye instead of going upwards into the air
If you have all the five points above - you should be good with the muscle pass already.
Jarrett Goh - March 25, 2006 05:28 PM (GMT)
Wah...Mr.James,with so many bad side effects so you'll be able to do one thing?Aik...I'ed rather stick to something that doesnt harm you in some way...anyways my fave is still the coin roll coz it attract tons of strangers and thats when they end up coming to you instead of you coming to them.Happended to me tons of times adi haha
JamesTong - March 25, 2006 09:17 PM (GMT)
Actually it is not so bad, I am just pulling your legs.

You can get free eye shadow effect as well :D :D :D
1 sleight 2 effects :D :D :D

Practise using a metal washer that have the size of 50 cents or slightly bigger, so that you can master the sleight a lot faster. This is due to metal washer is a lot lighter compare to 50 cents and if the size is slightly bigger, it will be easier for your palm to squeeze it. After you have master it then change back to 50 cents.
Make sure you don't get any blue-black marks :P
Sukyi - March 27, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
haha... free eye shadow? what if one side got free eye shadow and the other side got free eye bags? lol

This topic's been dead. Most people here interested in card magic more, I presume? Maybe, maybe not.
Aside from the coin roll, I've just learnt the roll down! I can do it 40% of the time, but that's because I just started practicing it last night.
For those of you who don't know what the roll down is, it's a coin flourish in which you display a stack of four coins (I use 50 sen coins) and all of a sudden, the coins roll down your fingers until each one of them is held separately between your fingers. Once I master this flourish, I'm going to begin every coin matrix with it! So, for those of you who think it's a waste of time learning coin flourishes, think again. Like every card flourish, when you incorporate coin flourishes into a coin routine, you'd look like a professional!
By the way, it's not a crime to revive dead topics, is it? I'm asking because I've been doing lots of it lately.

Roll down is a very beautiful coin flourish. Though I still can't master it, probably due to the smooth edge of our coins. It’s the hardest coin flourish if compare to coin roll, coin star and muscle pass (these are the coin flourishes I can recall), IMO.
Hearing someone said that it’d be a bit easier if you used palming coins. Have yet to try it myself, so no comment here.

Using Malaysian 50cents coin would be a challenge to do a coin flourish - coin star in particular. It is not impossible but with practice, it can be done.
I use US half quarters for coin flourish - coin star in particular as they have ridges on the edge of the coin which makes the coin a lot easier to grip and handle.
Rizal - September 13, 2006 05:57 AM (GMT)
I've never heard of the 'Coin Star' flourish before. Could you explain a little on how it looks like?
Brendan Low - September 13, 2006 07:31 AM (GMT)
Would someone be kind enough to do a vid of these flourishes? :P
Anyone here into poker chip flourishes?
Amane - September 13, 2006 08:57 AM (GMT)
A coin star is when you balance a coin at the tip of every finger in one hand
normally happens after a roll down
Jarrett Goh - September 13, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
Don't get me wrong Rizal,I love coin magic. I got inspired to coin magic by James Tong,he's awesome. He taught me one of the first coin effects I actually use very, very often, and I never fail to impress the audience, and because I live at Australia, I get better advantage because the reactions are much more stronger (Typical "angmo or caucasian or white people"). I once performed it to a bunch of girls the effect James Tong taught me and they screamed so loudly I thought my ear drums was about to burst.
For coin flourishes, I have been practicing the coin roll for about 11 months now, it is the only coin flourish I perform very, very often, like everyday. My best record is 50 coin rolls/revolutions per minute. My goal is to be able to do at least 54 coin rolls per minute by the end of this year,54 would be near impossible however.

Flourish shouldn't be fast but smooth and beautiful, IMHO. Instead of just "walking down" with one coin, how about trying to do Pendulum, staircase or 3 coins walk?
I'm playing with staircase and 2 coins walk now. THough still can't perfect them, I mean without dropping a coin even I am bilndfold.

I agree. Some with card flourishes, smoothness and flow is key, speed is second nature... you will naturally build up speed with experience.
But as for coins.. i totally agree... it shouldnt be fast at all! Given coins are shinny stuff and a small object for eyes to concentrate on, being smooth is so much better.
Er.. yeah... i think Ive seen a clip of coin star some time ago. Nice move.
But yeah I do coin rolls when Im really bored and have no cards with me. :P. I do roll downs only... no roll ups. I do with both 20cents and 50 cents.
Gave up on Muscle Pass d. haha
Amane - September 14, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
Muscle pass is indeed a tricky move
to improve on it fast
i recommend one of those palming coins (the big flat light ones - can't remember the name)
those help a lot, if you cant be bothered then a half dollar would be fine.....or rm0.50 can possibly work out as well.....
start with a 2 handed muscle pass
palm the coin and squeeze with the other hand
it will hurt a bit
but....it helps your hand get used to the muscle pass grip
once you can do it with 2 hands, then move on to one handed muscle pass
then practice positioning the coin with one hand
this is the standard way of learning a muscle pass if all other methods fail.
normally lucky people with palms suited for Muscle passing get it within a day to a week.
Forrest Lim - September 14, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
Regarding the muscle pass, how about using a poker chip? It's very light. About the coin star, I did see Fred Kaps did it with jumbo coins and it's just simply amazing. You'll know what I mean when you try it yourself with jumbo coins.
Amane - September 16, 2006 05:04 AM (GMT)
Poker chips are great for muscle passing
but the edges are thick and don't have much grip
so it's not that great when you're starting out
but great when you got the muscle pass down.

I can do with all types of coins. 50 cents, 20 cents, 10 cents, 5 cents and even 1 cent coins. Am I missing out any?? :)
Jarrett Goh - February 22, 2007 12:56 PM (GMT)
Oh...? You can do coin roll with 1 cent, you're a legend. I better go start searching for 1 cents around my house now and practice, I can, but you seriously don't know how hard it is to do coin roll with one cent.
sham dzid - December 22, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
