i'm thinking of shooting a magic show for tv. i need some feedback on this. i can get the equipment and i have an experienced crew to shoot this thing.

if i could get around 5-10 magicians for a 1-2 hours TV program, that would be just nice.

when i get a group of magicians (street, parlor, closeup, whatever), we will get together to discuss funding and sponsors, what effects to include, etc.

after that i'm gonna try to push the program to a TV station and see if we could turn this into a weekly series like Mondo. i have a few contacts in the industry, so wish me luck on that. all i need now is some feedback.

not everyone is from kl, some from melaka, some ipoh, some east msia, so how?

unless u can get a group of KL magicians, then may good. if the person is in melaka then how? he not going to go to kl week is he? i like ya idea and guts a lot! man... it'll be cool to have a mondo magic in msia.

You hav my full support for the idea too! actually i hav abit of experience of making my own video (wit david they all)..the final product is not very satisfactory (good for collecting for own memory but not up to the TV level)..we did send it to TV station but didn't get much of their attention. and HENCE, i think i learnt some lessons from this experience:
1. Be serious, be patient. (We rush out the whole thing in ONE night, obviously tat's severly inadequate. We did the shooting around Sunway pyramid area till late night and we're all exhausted) I think the better way is dun rush it..collect good scene n good reactions..perform more times n in more places..quality is the most important.
2. The editing crew. Though my vid was shot n edited by experienced crew, the fatal point is, they are NOT magician. i think it's good to let (or at least helped by) magician to care for the angles n shooting part, and also the editing. That's bcoz only WE know wat's the desired effect tat we wanna deliver.
3. Making it a reality is not impossible. We should do it before anyone else appear on TV (like criss after blaine), the originality is lost. AFter all there is no 'malaysian' magic gang yet hehe. so come on guys, make it happen.

i gotta agree wif darren, the magician gotta have some sorta control of camera angles, editing etc. If not the magician himself, then a magician should be advisor to the director /cameraman.

then again, look at blaine, he always knows where the camera is and adjust his own and spectators position beforehe start the trick. if the camera fail to capture the moment the spectator's face turn :!!: , wasted man!!!

hey....is this gonna be a one time show thing or a series? if u wanna do it like mondo.... amn we really need lots of time and creativity man. if one time show then we can put in the best effects. and those outside kl can come for oneday shooting event... lol.... :P

well the way the industry works, we have to come up with a pilot or a special or something like that, then the tv folks will decide whether to let us make more shows.

so...it's prolly better to come up with a pilot which is about 40 minutes...it should take about a week of shooting and another week or two of editing.

i had this idea before~~! but i'm taking my exam this year so too bad i cant join...

my suggestion,

get more footage.

maybe up to 2-3 hours cos you'll find a lot of footage can't be used. (bad lighting, focus, bad magic hehehe, spectator behave like blaine (stoned facial expression)

then after editing, u'll have your 40 mnutes.

this is live shoots ( the spectator's expressions) so do the same tricks on many dirrerent people, choose the best reaction and use that.

unless u intend to do close up to camera ( ala Grandpas' Aces, i love that performance), then its just u and the cameraman. shoot until u get it right. no need for spectators.

IMO, maybe we should focus on the specatator's response, like a 3rd spectator view.. like blaine, they re-shoot the close up AFTER the trick is done..

yup that's rite. do it like blaine's specials... its important to capture the spec/audience reactions and expressions. that will make it sell :) lol..

and yeah i agree with Rainking, we should get more footage coz editing and all will take away some not so good scenes.

we can like make this as like a video from the "Underground"... i mean i dont think any of us is like well known magicians rite? hehe... well, im not... only my frens know i magician, the rest no clue :P. we are all still very underground in that sense.

baalan, hope u can gather a few people in kl to start discussing abt it first and then come out with a game plan and then proposal.

i like the idea of street magic kinda filming (blaine style), 30120162 (u can perform freaky magic -criss angel stuff, with the gothic look... u into that rite? lol), then we can have some parts in the filming for card manipulation skills and some flourish, colour changes and some close up work. We have magicians with different personalities..

just some street magic stuff that we can do:
ACR, 2CM, here and there, watch steal (can anyone do that?hehe dangerous also might get beaten up later), heal and sealed soda (anyone tried it and successful?) and someone can also do levitation be it BL or KR.

hmm wat you guys think? for this to work, start working on meeting up regularly (those in kl and interested) and then go from there.

Won't that be too similar to blaine's special? Ha but i do agree those are all good street tricks..anyway we should come up with more fresh tricks..need to brainstorm first..
but after all i think we should perform 'some' blaine's tricks la (but definately not those already been revealed n well known by laymen one)..not to show we r imitating, but to let ppl know we can do wat he does..=)

maybe we can create variation or his trick? since everyone likes him, maybe we can bring the trick one step further ? i'm very impress with the trick done in Mondo Magic, the one which the prediction on the window..

yes, u r right darren, we need something fresh, something like wat mondo magic does, even though i have not seen it lol. but i think even if we do blaine's stuff, people will still watch it and be amazed. i dunno how many laymen heard or seen all of blaine's magic unless they are his fans. i just dont think everyone knows the effect of 2CM. maybe 50:50... not sure... but yeah if we can think of something fresh.... it will be great!

If I ever get a part (which I won't HA HA), I'll stick to the good ole Breakthrough Card System ;) or may be some Tudor's Heckler stuff heheheheh. In fact, I don't think I'd be here in July, so why don't you guys do the stuff I just mentioned? I'm sure a card to front zipper will make funny reaction ;)

that's an awesome idea. the only problem is finding a camera. if anyone's got a mini dvcam please bring one. i'll bring a friend along to help us shoot. he's on my crew, and he's sorta learning magic from me too! i'll try to get a camera, but if anyone get get exra cameras, do bring em. we could include the nuovo gig in the program!
