Title: Learning Magic

playlife - October 5, 2005 08:02 AM (GMT)
Hi,

This is John here. I have been searching for places where I can go to learn magic. Is there anyone here who teaches or magic or does anyone of you know of any magic schools in Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya?

Thanks
John

Hey John,

Welcome to the fellowship dude. It was good talking to you on the phone this morning.

Like i said, i dunno if i would recommend taking lessons in magic from someone, unless u got someone who is willing to teach u. I would say work on what u know first. If u are talking abt card magic, get some books or get dvds. There are some beginners boooks and dvds that i beleive have been mentioned somewhere in the forum.

Or why not come hang around with us, esp those in KL. they meet regularly. They'd recommend u some good stuff.

For now, my best advice is learn card sleights. once u learn how to do ACR, Biddle trick etc then u can go for more complex routines.

Oh..learn and practice on some simple cut / flourishes too..

Cheers!
Brendan

welcome John, do tell us more about yourself? what type of magic do you like and what sort of magic would you like to learn? cards? balls? stage? close up? what type are you interested in?

It would be better to know what sort of magic you like and start from there. Like some of us here love card manipulation & flourishes a lot, and levitating stuff. Start from your field of interest and work from there. Get some basic magic books, and ebooks (you can download them free from some websites) and look through them.

:D :D :D

maybe u can ask James Tong if he conducts classes. PM/email him.

oh yeah, and welcome to the fellowship.

Hi To All,

WOW! I am so happy to hear from all of you here! Really a friendly bunch of people...

I am interested in learning close-up magic...probably inspired by David Blaine :)

I have tried learning from books but due to my hectic work schedule and indiscipline, the progress is rather slow. Hence, I am now thinking of taking an intensive course with a master...

Cheers,
John

If you want to learn magic, I would suggest you get hold of the 3 volumes;
Fooler Doolers by Daryl and I bet you will never regret it. I can watch him perform on dvd the same routines 20 times and I never get tired of it cos he is a true magical entertainer.
