Title: Another Suggestion
isaac - November 1, 2005 04:33 PM (GMT)
i always got lots of questions bout sleight on particular routine n stuff
however if in this forum is kinda hard to ask in details
cos many lay man can enter this forum
can we have a private section ?
which only "proven" magician can enter to discuss ??
cos lots of time we use DL, TT, ITR ..
is kinda confusing n most of the time we need to worry bout exposure
just a suggestion

Here's the question, how do you "prove" to be a magician? B)
Answering online questionaires are not very acceptable to me. :)

last time i saw a forum(dunno is china or taiwan's forum) had done this before. who want to join the private section have to shoot a clip about magic to prove that u r a magician. and u have to say somethingf like... "i am xxx, i want to join mmf.." this is to prevent ppl simply takes other magician clips and put it online..

I don't know whether this is effective or not. Say if you want to enter a secret or private section, you must have posted say more than 300 posts (just an example), then you are entitled to enter and join at that particular section.
The posts that that person made also prove that he is a magicians and have been posting around his knowledge or thread in the forum. So, for that number of posts, we can know and judge that this person is a magician and have knowledge in magic.
What you guys think???!

i know magic but not good in english... so i do not post much in the forum..
andrew, your suggestion seem unfair to me.. hehe.. just kidding la
Ignatius - November 2, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
I'd go with the video option. You'll get spam with the minimum posts option.
Andrew Loh - November 3, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
Hi Jackliw,
Opps! Sorry about that! But, that's just my view only! :P
Well, I don't know our admin can do this or not, since we already know our own Malaysian magic circle (I mean we know other members here well), our admin can change or set our account to as "Special members", so only we can access to the secret section.
For new comers, if they are intereted in contributing in the secret section, maybe then our admin can consider that later.
Oh well, just my humble views. B)

its a great suggestion guys and that's what i had in mind for a long time.... a private section for real magicians, those that can really do magic and not for the noobs and beginners or someone that just got started into the art.
i will think abt this option and will discuss with Aloy. It seems like SMC already has one section for this. so perhaps we can have one too...
and yeah how would u know who is to be in this private magician's section only?
I wouldnt simply let people in unless i know they are non only talking so much abt an effect, but also be able to perform. i know alot of people can just use lots of magic jargons but cannot perform for sh*T. it's v easy to talk like they know a lot.
i dunno man. id rather met them face to face and get to know them b4 adding them. wel.. tat's my views...
again, just my opinion,
-Brendan

I dont feel comfortable as a poseur...
anyway, I dont think i will be liable to join although i AM a magician.
First, I dont plan to post too much posts and if i have to reach 300 posts, it'll motivate me to post crap so i guess I will not do that...
Secondly, I dont have a digicam and I dont think I will get one anytime soon. So no movies from me (xcept the upcoming one - filmed with my handycam).
I think its proper to setup a mod of 9 magicians that you personally know to filter these people in. Odd number so there will not be any neutral number. If I have a friend and he's really good in magic, I can recommend him and by vote, he might be able to be given a chance to enter the private discussion. So he does not have to waste his time and make a video and STILL be able to enter the forum.
Try getting a video or 300 posts from our sifu James Tong...

I think admittance should be based on the knowledge of magic, rather than the number of posts or videos uploaded. How do we know if a member could be admited? By the quality contribution to the site maybe? Or the gathering/meet ups? Somehow, ya know, we should be able to determine whether the person's taken his/her time in magic or not.

One more idea is based how active the person is in the forum, it shows the dedication and interest level of a person in magic. 'Active' in the aspect of logging into the forum once at least every 3 days to contribute and to learn.

How about becoming and invite only affair a little like gmail but must have approval of admin. Must be very strict coz if we let a non-magician friends, he'll recommend to allow access to more non-magician friends.
Hmm..... how about the requirement "Must have met Brendan in real life and performed to him something in real life." Well exceptions can be made for people like Anderson though. He is clearly a legit magician.
And the guys who "have met Brendan in real life and performed to him something in real life." can recommend to Brendan his other magician friends that he/she knows in real life.

This is funny..hey brendan prepare urself for gonna be very very busy! :D
Anyway ya having a private session is good..however hmm do you really think a layman will be interested in reading the stuffs in this forum? Just a thought..
Brendan Low - November 9, 2005 09:16 AM (GMT)
oh man.... its not like im in kl all the time man.... im in a small underground city called melaka... so yeah...... most underground magicians come from small cities like melaka and penang.... lol....
i dunno if layman would be interested or find anything interesting in this forum. i mean we dont really discuss or reveal much to them. so yeah... they prob come to get some advice and some tips and updates on new items in the market.
well... i guess... there's other better forums for product reviews.
this forum to me is a place to get in touch with our local magician and hang out together.... wat i call jam session.
haha.... :D

i think there is a lot of people wanna find out about magic or get free tricks
is no so much of let other find out ..
hmp .. i probably just want a place to discuss further in certain sleights
or more in depth in particular routines
just for eg.
like if i wanna discuss a certain trick like erm ..
dai vernon twisting the aces
.. if i need help on certain move .. i cant be like PM everybody right ?
may b the few moderator can also lend a hand to brendan lor ...
:)
Brendan Low - November 10, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)
well i guess if u need help in a certain move and know of someone who can do it.... well... i guess u can PM that person. Its up to the person if he/she wanna tell u how its done or give u tips or not.
For me... i would only help those i know personally know....
besides... msn is a great way... PMing is just too much... lol
Kam - November 10, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
Yes, MSN has always been great. Check member's profile to know their MSN address.
