Title: Mentalism Insights
Description: What is not covered in detail in books?

Joe Xavier - November 23, 2005 06:49 AM (GMT)
To mentalists here,

Do you feel there is a need for a certain type of book on mentalism? Is there a subject area or topic which has not been covered in detail and you think it would be useful to have a book on?

I am just curious about the things that are not covered in whole by the people writing books...

Mindfreak,

there's some material out there already which covers the theoritical / psychological part of mentalism instead of techniques.

There isnt enough time to read them all (or money to buy them all) :P . Mentalism stuff is expensive.

I'm simply too selfish to share the names of these books here in a public forum, so PM me if you're interested to discuss these books.

maybe i'm not as well read as rainking, but i'd love a more detailed description of turning misses into hits. cold-reading books are just not enough for me. so far i've had to adapt stuff on my own, turning misses into hits by coming up with my own patter and cover-ups. sigh, i guess thats the best way to learn, thru experience.

baalan's just being modest.

No matter how well read you are , I think cold reading, psychological subtleities and NLP stuff need to be tried out in the real world many many times before you really get the hang of it and be able to use it effectively.

There's no way you can practice stuff like that in front of a mirror unlike other fields of magic, so like baalan says, experience is the most important.

A lot of books on these stuff is from a western point of view and may not entirely be suitable for asian/malaysian usage. Needs to be adapted to the way asians think.

I wanna share this funny experience I had with MMF member kenningst :-

me : name a piece of funiture quick.
Kenningst : key box
me : WHAT THE HECK !!!???? KEY BOX???? how the heck you come up with keybox??

Mentalism books?
Read Corinda,13 steps to mentalism-it`ll bore you to death but it`ll teach you things you`d never know exist.

Anything by Thedore Anneman.
If you`re starting off, read mental magic by Karl Fuves,Dover Publication.

After all these, read stuff by Bob cassidy,Lee Becker,Kenton Knepper, and Osterlind.

for mentalism,I would suggest you concentrate more on books rather on DVDs.I started off with dvds but never realised there was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more hidden in books.Muscle reading,Cold Reading,Reaction Dissection,Phycological Subtelties.........etc........limitless.
