Title: Best Places To Shop For Magic Stuff!
Joe Xavier - March 9, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
Hi people,
I recommend two websites:
Magic Materials:
www.MagicProShop.com
- Very speedy delivery. I got my items within one week of ordering.
Magic Books:
www.AcmaBooks.com
- A SEA version of Amazon.com. They sell a lot of books and most of them have prices which are already converted into Malaysian Ringgit. Quite reliable but kinda slow. Took up to two weeks for my order to come through. Books were wrapped and sealed so tight...came in perfect condition.
Write ur reviews for websites!
I understand Penguin is another option...Ellusionist may be kinda pricey but its good for noobs.
Andrew Loh - March 9, 2005 03:29 PM (GMT)
Hi Joe,
Many thanks for the valuable info. :)
Yeah! I agree with you as quite a number of magicians complimented magicproshop for their swift service.
Cheers,
Andrew

check out www.magic.org for free international shipping for orders above $40
Penguin Magic & www.magicproshop.com are the 2 overseas website with the cheapest prices i've seen so far...
Andrew Loh - April 30, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
Yeah! Those shops you mentioned their service is top-notch!

zhuanan - May 12, 2005 03:43 PM (GMT)
Sometimes it can take a couple of days for them to reply....so far, the fastest shipping that I have experienced - for normal Airmail is ellusionist - within 10 days the parcel would arrive...
Others like elmwoodmagic, hanklee, magicpro would take about 2 weeks...

Hi folks,
Yes! There's a risk actually purchasing online using credit cards.
No choice, buying by using credit card is more faster.

the time (the only time) i bought from Penguin....I just put Australia for my credit card (coz i study in Australia), but the credit card is based in Malaysia...so it's actually a Malaysian card...
i order already..
then I emailed them to ask them if it's okay....Maxwell replied and said it's fine and i got my stuff....
zhuanan - May 16, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
What if you were to stay in Malaysia? How would you provide ur shipping address since they don't list down "Malaysia" as the country option? Just curious.... :P

I think he meant the shipping address STILL in .aus.. just the card itself is issued from .my
jackliw - May 17, 2005 02:41 PM (GMT)
my ways is place order first then tell them i stay in malaysia. they will send the items also, haha
if u email them first they will tell u they dont ship to malaysia :)
this is my own experience la
p/s: recently i order from magicpro, but dont know wats going on.... they are slow :(
any one who had order from magicpro please give some comment....
zhuanan - May 17, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
jackliw:
So when you fill in the order page at Penguinmagic, since there is no option to choose Malaysia, does that mean that you click some other country and after the order is placed, you quickly email them and tell them that you are actually not from that country but from Malaysia?
Is this is what you do, wouldn't it be risky?
I mean what if they don't accept the "new country" (i.e. Malaysia), then the parcel will go the "the other country" that you clicked earlier already lo.... :o
As for Magicpro, yes they are slower...but the shipping charges is much cheaper....would advice you to email them to check out status if you are in dire need to know...
Eric Liew - May 17, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)
magic pro shop cheaper shipping? maybe if you buy little
but if you buy more stuff, penguin cheaper i think..coz it's $12 for 3 items or more...unless u buy heaps of books..like i bought Card College series there..$50 for shipping, bloody hell!
Yeah good Q, i guess you should just email Maxwell Murphy and ask , say u're from Malaysia..maybe they just scared of credit card fraud here
jackliw - May 17, 2005 03:43 PM (GMT)
zhuanan,
actually i ordered thru regular mail, its take about 3-4 weeks to reach here since i ordered. if u r not very urgent u can try this way :)
zhuanan - May 17, 2005 11:18 PM (GMT)
So what is the email address for Maxwell Murphy?
jackliw....just wondering, did you choose another country initially at order page at Penguin at later email them that you are actually from Malaysia?
Btw, in term of buying card college, I would recommend:
www.loomismagic.com
They charge USD 15 for whatever quantity of books, and it is via global priority
jackliw - May 18, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
zhuanan,
i email penguin and they told me that when you place your order, just select other country. then they will send u an order confirmation email. then when u send the bank draft thru a regular mail, just include a note that your real country is Malaysia.
jackliw - May 19, 2005 03:06 PM (GMT)
magicpro is really sux!!!

Fellow Malaysian,
Please do not buy from Magic Pro. I have ordered from them a dvd set and it never arrived. Wrote to them agaian and agian but no reply. Please I lost abt USD 80 for that .....very heart ache............
Jeff Gan - May 24, 2005 09:25 AM (GMT)
actually this is why i don't order stuff from the internet.
i don't have confidence in the local couriers / postal service. so so many bad experiences with local courrier companies (even the so called big names) amd post malaysia. I've had packages ( big ones ) go missing , bank loan documents go missing, and a fax machine supposed to be courriered to me in PJ somehow reached Kuantan.
dan, maybe it's not magicpro but your local postal service?
i dunno, just a possibility.

I second that.
The postal service here isn't really good, I've had several unfortunate experience with them before.

Hi folks,
This is a very interesting news.
Yes, I have been reading and hearing lots of these kind of incidents in the magic cafe.
Purchasing from online or other magic shops overseas, yes they do carry some high risk, some magic online shop is a 'mock' shop, you pay them, they take your money and cheat you. You have to be very be careful and cautions when ordering.
So far, I have been purchasing magic books, DVDs, etc. So far yes and the only dissatisfaction is the parcel arrived to me in 'dented' condition. I don't who's fault until my DVD cover broken. :(
That's the complications of ordering from overseas if compare to purchase something face-to-face. If I have the option, I am sure would like to buy something face-to-face.
If you guys really want to still order from overseas, why not order something less than $20 ~ $40??? This is to test whether this shop is a genuine magic dealer shop or not.
Though you have the risk of losing this money if it's a mock shop, but at least you know the shop's reputation. I am NOT ENCOURAGING you to use this method, I sometimes use this when I HAVE NO CHOICE to purchase a particular OOP items. :(
Andrew
jackliw - May 24, 2005 12:30 PM (GMT)
i buy usd 200++ from penguin and 80+ from magicpro.
so far i am very satisfied with penguin service :)
Andrew Loh - May 24, 2005 12:48 PM (GMT)
Yeah! I agree with Jackliw, I think now Penguinmagic go towards become good reputation as a seller, I saw they have some improvement in their download effects sections where now he 'credits' the source. ^_^
It's an ethical way to do this! ^_^

I have been buying all my magic stuff (5 orders in the past 2 years) from www.themagicwarehouse.com price is right for my budget. Cheaper than Penguin the last time I checked too.
jackliw - May 25, 2005 12:42 PM (GMT)
I agree with javalier, the magic warehouse sells some magic stuff cheaper.
javalier, how long the magic warehouse takes to reach here? penguin takes about 1 week, its fast.
I just got my items today :):):):)
zhuanan - May 25, 2005 12:49 PM (GMT)
zhuanan,
i email penguin and they told me that when you place your order, just select other country. then they will send u an order confirmation email. then when u send the bank draft thru a regular mail, just include a note that your real country is Malaysia.
jackliw:
May I just check with you on the postage of sending regular mail (which includes the bank draft) to Penguin? And when you said regular mail, did you use the "Registered regular mail" or the pos biasa where u only need to affix stamps on the envelope?
Thanks
jackliw - May 25, 2005 12:56 PM (GMT)
zhuanan,
its a registered mail.
after the first order, now they agree to deal with me by using credit card :)
so far i placed 3 order with them liao. the shipping is fast :):)
Eric Liew - May 25, 2005 01:47 PM (GMT)
I've been hearing bad stuff bout Magic Proshop recently
I emailed them 3 times, no reply also....
It has pretty good range and prices....but not sure bout the service...
javalier - June 1, 2005 07:33 AM (GMT)
Jackliw,
I've had five purchases experience with magicwarehouse. Fastest I got was one week. Five working days, but slowest is two weeks, which is not so bad at all.
Word of caution though. Never just buy DVDs. I ordered pure DVDs and VHS one time, on the box written "DVDs",.... kena tax like hell!! Some more have to drive to Sepang pick up from there. Always order some other magic item, like cards lah, whatever lah... so that the box is written "Magic Items" or "Magic Merchandise". Tak kena tax.
Eric Liew - June 1, 2005 06:08 PM (GMT)
shites..
how much was tax?
i thought they will tax cards too? if they scan through, they will tax coz it's "alat judi"
javalier - June 2, 2005 09:06 AM (GMT)
Tax is 20% of total cost! So imagine you buy RM600 worth, you have to pay RM120 on tax. So far kena on tapes only lah. What can they scan on boxes with cards? Only black mah, coz' cards are made of wood and no free spaces between. Dvds and Tapes can see the shape. What I did was said it cost RM200 lah... at least pay RM40 not so bad. Don't tipu tipu say RM50 lah... shipping lagi mahal pulak.
Eric Liew - June 2, 2005 11:03 AM (GMT)
I know a guy who ordered 2 dozens of black decks or sth....then he kena tax at the custom office...and had to give the police officer 1 deck of cards some more
